STATEMENT OF PRIME PURPOSE
MNOC’s STANDARD OF INTEGRITY
The Métis Nation of Canada (MNOC) adopted a Standard of Integrity, which consists of four principles:
- INTEGRITY
- REPRESENTATION
- REGISTRY
- ACCOUNTABILITY
These four principles represent the Métis truthfully, with honour, honestly, and with a profound respect for the cultural diversity of all the Métis peoples across Turtle Island.
INTEGRITY
The MNOC:
- Identifies exclusively as a Métis organisation;
- Has an elected Council (Board of Directors);
- Is incorporated federally;
- Will present its Constitution and By-Laws to be ratified at its next Rendezvous (AGA);
- Holds at least 4 Council meetings annually, and an annual or bi-annual general assembly;
- Alternate elections for half the council every two years for four years term; and
- Communicate regular activities updates to its citizens.
REPRESENTATION
The MNOC:
- Has received a mandate from the citizenship to represent nationally, and/or regionally upon the request of its treaty partners or the Métis communities it is affiliated with;
- Organise and participate cultural events celebrating Métis culture, traditions, and practices;
- Strives to maintain and promote Métis identity, traditions, and culture at the national, regional, and community levels; and
- Is committed to work towards asserting the rights of the Métis people from coast to coast to coast.
REGISTRY
The MNOC:
- Upholds a legitimate registry (paper base & electronic) and a sound registration & verification process i.e. application form, genealogical chart and valid/legal records linking every generation from the applicant to the Indigenous ancestor;
- Is willing to offer guidance with the establishment and management of a registry and registration process to its treaty partners;
- Is willing to allow an audit or forensic audit of its registry upon request.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The MNOC:
- Maintains detailed accountability that may be verified and inspected by the organisation’s citizens and funders upon request;
- Provides a verified monthly financial report to the Board of Directors, and an annual Financial Statement to its members;
- Conducts regular review and updates of the governance instruments and present copies to be ratified during the general assemblies.
